Time, Distance & Speed

Formulae:

Speed\ =\ \frac{Distance}{Time}

Time\ =\ \frac{Distance}{Speed}

Distance\ =\ Speed\ \times\ Time

Tips & Tricks:

1. km/hr to m/s conversion: x\ km/hr\ =\ x\ \times\ \frac{5}{18}\ m/s

2. If the ratio of speeds of A and B is a : b, then ratio of distance covered in same time will be a : b.

3. If the ratio of speeds of A and B is a : b, then ratio of time taken to cover same distance will be \frac{1}{a}:\frac{1}{b} or b : a.

4. If a person covers a certain distance at x km/hr and an equal distance at y km/hr, then the average speed during the whole journey will be \frac{2xy}{x+y}.

5. If a person covers 3 equal distances at x km/hr, y km/hr and z km/hr then the average speed during the whole journey will be \frac{3xyz}{xy+yz+zx}.

6. If 2 persons start at the same time from two points A & B towards each other and after crossing they take a & b hrs in reaching B & A respectively, then \frac{A's\ speed}{B's\ speed}=\frac{\sqrt{b}}{\sqrt{a}}.
